Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program | Neovita Oncology

Cancer in your teens, 20s, or 30s is different. Neovita’s dedicated AYA Oncology Program provides age-specific treatment, fertility preservation, peer support & career guidance for patients ages 15-39.

Why a Dedicated Program?

A cancer diagnosis can be particularly challenging for adolescents and young adults (AYA), typically aged 15 to 39. This is a time of major life milestones, from finishing school and starting a career to building relationships and becoming independent. Our AYA Program is dedicated to providing specialized care and support that addresses your unique medical, social, and emotional needs, ensuring you can continue to live your life to the fullest.

You’re Not Too Young for This. And You’re Not Alone.

A cancer diagnosis between the ages of 15 and 39 can feel like a brutal interruption. Just as you’re building your identity, pursuing education, launching a career, or starting a family, everything suddenly stops. Your medical, social, and emotional needs are vastly different from those of a young child or an older adult. You need a medical team that gets it.

Neovita’s Adolescent & Young Adult (AYA) Oncology Program is the first of its kind in the region, built from the ground up to address the unique biological and psychosocial challenges of AYA cancers. We provide world-class medical care in an environment designed for you; where your voice is heard, your future is protected, and you can connect with others who truly understand your world.

Why AYA Care is Different: Biology, Treatment, and Community

Cancers in AYAs are often biologically distinct from the same cancers in children or older adults. They can be more aggressive and require specialized treatment approaches. Furthermore, the impact of treatment on your developing body, fertility, mental health, and life plans requires expert navigation

Treatment protocols designed for the unique biology of AYA cancers.

Protecting your ability to have a family after cancer is a standard part of our care, not an afterthought.

Addressing isolation, mental health, and the need for connection with people your own age.

Helping you manage the impact on school, work, finances, and independence.

Fertility Preservation: Protecting Your Future Family

This is non-negotiable. At the very first consultation, before treatment begins, we will have a urgent conversation about fertility preservation.

For Men/People Sperm-Producing: Sperm banking is arranged immediately, often on the same day as your consultation.

For Women/People Egg-Producing: We have partnerships with leading fertility clinics to facilitate rapid egg or embryo freezing (oocyte cryopreservation) before treatment starts. We work to make this financially feasible through grants and assistance programs.

Ovarian Tissue Freezing: For some patients, we offer innovative experimental procedures like ovarian tissue cryopreservation.

The AYA Lounge & Community: Your Space to Connect

Isolation is one of the hardest parts of an AYA diagnosis. Your healthy friends don’t get it. That’s why we created The BaseCamp, a dedicated lounge and community space exclusively for AYA patients.

The Space: A modern lounge with comfy couches, video games, a coffee bar, WIFI, and charging stations. It’s a place to escape the clinical feel of the hospital.

Peer Connection: This is the heart of our program. We facilitate connections through: First Connect: which is a peer matching program that pairs you with a survivor who had a similar diagnosis and is now thriving, AYA Support Groups: Facilitated by our AYA social worker, these groups are raw, real, and incredibly supportive. Topics range from “Telling Your Partner You Have Cancer” to “Dealing with FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).,Social Events: Game nights, virtual hangouts, yoga classes, and annual retreats designed for fun and connection, not just treatment talk.

Mental Health & Wellness Support That Gets It

We treat the emotional toll with the same seriousness as the physical one.

AYA-Specific Therapy: Our therapists specialize in issues like body image after surgery, dating with cancer, fear of recurrence, and anxiety about the future. This isn’t your typical therapy; it’s tailored to the AYA experience.

Digital Health Tools: Access to vetted mental health apps like Lymber and CBT-i for sleep, and online communities like Stupid Cancer and The Samfund.

Onco-Sexuality Counseling: Addressing the profound impact of cancer and treatment on intimacy, sexual health, and relationships. This is a safe, confidential space to discuss these crucial issues.

Life Navigation: School, Work, and Finances

We help you tackle the practical problems that cancer creates.

School: We provide official letters to your college or university to secure medical leave, arrange accommodations, and facilitate a smooth return.

Work: Our social workers coach you on your rights under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and how to talk to your employer.

“Financial Toxicity” is real. We have a dedicated benefits counselor to help you navigate insurance, disability claims, and co-pay assistance.

We connect you with organizations that provide grants for non-medical costs like rent, transportation, and groceries (The SamfundFamily Reach).

Insurance Navigation: Help understanding and maintaining coverage, especially for young adults navigating the transition on/off a parent’s plan.

Clinical Trials: Access to the Next Generation of Treatment

Because AYA cancers can be more aggressive, having access to the latest science is critical. We are a leading enroller in national AYA-specific clinical trials through groups like the Children’s Oncology Group (COG) and NRG Oncology. This gives you access to cutting-edge immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and novel treatment combinations not yet available elsewhere.
