Biography

Dr. Kimryn Rathmell earned her MD from Duke University School of Medicine and her PhD in Biophysics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She trained in Internal Medicine and later completed a fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Before her appointment as Director of the U.S. National Cancer Institute in 2023, Dr. Rathmell served as Chair of Medicine at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was also the Cornelius Abernathy Craig Professor of Medicine. At NeoVita, she leverages her expertise to advance cancer genomics, clinical innovation, and international research cooperation.

Dr. Rathmell is a globally recognized leader in oncology, known for her groundbreaking research into the molecular underpinnings of kidney cancer. As Director of the National Cancer Institute (appointed in 2023), she oversees the United States’ largest federal cancer research organization, guiding both laboratory science and clinical application. Her research has identified genetic drivers of renal cell carcinoma, contributing to new treatment paradigms. She has received numerous awards for scientific excellence, mentored generations of oncologists, and advocates for equitable access to cancer care worldwide.
